CICIRM 2026

The 16th annual China International Conference on Insurance and Risk Management (CICIRM 2026) will be held on July 8-11, 2026 at the Yunnan Lianyun Hotel in Kunming, Yunnan, China. The conference is organized by the China Center for Insurance and Risk Management, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, and co-organized by the School of Finance, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (Yunnan Catastrophe Risk Management Research Center).

The CICIRM 2026 will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both online and in-person participation.

Since 2010, CICIRM has been the premier annual international conference in China dedicated to insurance and risk management. The conference offers participants the opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers, exchange ideas with leading international researchers, and present and discuss the latest academic and practical advances.

Roger J. A. Laeven

University of Amsterdam, Professor

Prof. dr. Roger J. A. Laeven has been a Full Professor, holding the Chair of Mathematics and Economics of Risk, at the Department of Quantitative Economics of the University of Amsterdam since 2011. Furthermore, he has been a Visiting Research Professor at Princeton University, Bendheim Center for Finance, since 2007. He serves as Editor of Insurance: Mathematics and Economics. He is the Director and Co-Founder of the Amsterdam Center of Excellence in Risk, Resilience and Regulation (AC3R).

Prof. Laeven's research spans the fields of Actuarial Science, Mathematical Finance, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Financial Econometrics, Operations Research, and (Micro) Economic Theory, and has appeared in the top academic journals in all these fields (Ann. Mario Wuethrich

ETH Zurich, Professor

Mario Wüthrich is Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Director of Actuarial Studies at ETH Zurich. He holds a PhD (doctorate) in Mathematics from ETH Zurich (1999). From 2000 to 2005, he held an actuarial position at Winterthur Insurance, Switzerland. He is Actuary SAA (2004), served on the board of the Swiss Association of Actuaries (2006-2018), he is Editor-in-Chief of the ASTIN Bulletin (since 2018), and he is Senior Scientific Advisor of InsureAI (since 2025). XIU Dacheng

University of Chicago, Professor

Dacheng Xiu specializes in developing statistical methodologies and their applications to financial data to investigate economic implications. His earlier research involved risk measurement and portfolio management with high-frequency data and econometric modeling of derivatives. Currently, he focuses on developing machine learning solutions for big-data problems in empirical asset pricing. His research has appeared in Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of the American Statistical Association, and Annals of Statistics. Justin Sydnor

University of Wisconsin–Madison Professor

Justin Sydnor is the American Family Insurance Distinguished Chair in Risk Management and Insurance. He currently serves as the department chair for the Risk and Insurance Department.

 

Sydnor earned his B.A. in economics and German from UW-Madison and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is also a member of the Penn Roybal Center Advisory Committee for the Center for Health Incentives and Behavioral Economics and a member of the Risk Theory Society.

 

His research interests are in the areas of behavioral economics, applied microeconomics, insurance markets, and decision making under risk and uncertainty. His work has been published in a range of leading journals in economics and business, including the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, among others.
