About the Forum

The world is in the midst of a profound demographic transformation. The rapid aging of populations presents both significant societal challenges and immense economic opportunities. The Silver Economy is no longer just a policy response to aging; it is a powerful, strategic engine for fostering high-quality productive forces, driving innovation, and enhancing the well-being of people across Asia and beyond.

To address this critical juncture, Tsinghua University is proud to host the 2026 Asia Silver Economic Forum. This premier event will serve as a leading platform for high-level dialogue, bringing together policymakers, distinguished academics, and industry leaders to exchange insights on policy directions, cutting-edge research, and best practices in silver economy development across China and Asia.

Theme: Asia's Opportunities in an Era of Longevity

As life expectancy rises and demographic structures shift, Asia stands at the forefront of a new economic frontier. This forum will explore how nations can harness the potential of aging populations to drive sustainable and inclusive growth. We will delve into the strategies needed to build resilient social systems, foster technological innovation, and create vibrant markets that cater to the evolving needs of older adults.

Distinguished Participants

The 2026 Asia Silver Economic Forum will  invite relevant leaders from national ministries and commissions, as well as renowned scholars, leading enterprises and senior executives of institutions from China and other Asian countries, to conduct diverse and in-depth exchanges and discussions.

Forum Sessions

The day will be structured around four in-depth sessions, each tackling a pillar of the silver economy:

  • Session 1: The Silver Economy: Strategies for High-Quality Growth
    Exploring industrial policies, market opportunities, and innovative business models that can unlock the economic potential of longevity.
  • Session 2: Social Security and Retirement Finance
    Addressing the challenges and solutions for building sustainable pension systems, enhancing retirement planning, and developing innovative financial products for an aging population.
  • Session 3: Silver Industry and Medical Care
    Examining integrated care models, the role of preventative medicine, and strategies for building a high-quality, accessible long-term care system that ensures dignity and well-being.
  • Session 4: Silver Technology and Smart Elderly Care (AgeTech)
    Showcasing the latest advancements in assistive technologies, smart senior living solutions, digital health tools, and AI-driven platforms that empower independent living and enhance quality of life.

LEI Xiaoyan

The National School of Development, Peking University,Professor and doctoral supervisor

LEI Xiaoyan is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the National School of Development, Peking University, a Boya Distinguished Professor of Peking University, and a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of Economics of the Ministry of Education. She also serves as Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of the Academic Committee and Director of the Think Tank Center of the National School of Development, Peking University, Director of the Center for Health Aging and Development Studies of Peking University, and Deputy Director of the Center for Human Capital and National Policy Research of the Ministry of Education-Peking University. Her research areas include Labor Economics, Health Economics, and Applied Econometrics. She obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2007, a Bachelor of Economics from Renmin University of China in 1997, a Master of Economics from Renmin University of China in 2000, and a Master of Economics from UCLA in 2003. She has won many honors including the 9th Higher Education Institution Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education. LI Daokui

School of Economics and Management Tsinghua University, Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor and doctoral supervisor

LI Daokui is the Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor, doctoral supervisor at the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, and a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of Economics of the Ministry of Education. He also serves as Director of the Institute of Chinese Economic Thought and Practice, Tsinghua University. His research areas include Economics of Government and Market, Chinese Economy, International Economy, Economic Development, and Corporate Finance. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University in 1985, and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, USA in 1992. He has served as Chief Economist of the New Development Bank (NDB), Member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the People's Bank of China, Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Member of the Economic Committee, etc. He has won many honors including CCTV Economic Person of the Year, Top Ten Outstanding Persons of Chinese Overseas Chinese, and "40 People in 40 Years of Chinese Reform and Opening-up Returnees". YANG Yansui

School of Public Policy and Management Tsinghua University, Professor and doctoral supervisor

YANG Yansui is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University, and also serves as Director of the Center for Employment and Social Security Research and Director of the Center for Healthcare Service Governance. Her research areas include pension and old-age security system, medical insurance and civil health security, labor relations and flexible employment mechanism, healthcare service governance, and pharmacoeconomics. Sok Chul Hong (홍석철)

Seoul National University, Professor

Sok Chul Hong (홍석철) is a professor at Seoul National University, with research areas including Economic History, Health Economics and Development Economics. ZHENG Bingwen

University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), Professor and doctoral supervisor

Zheng Bingwen is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and Level 2 researcher at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS), a recipient of the Special Government Allowance, and currently serves as Director of the Center for International Social Security Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). His research areas include welfare state, comparison of social security systems, social security fund investment, and enterprise annuity, etc.. He graduated from Liaoning University with a bachelor's degree in 1982, then pursued further studies at the Graduate School of CASS, obtaining a master's degree in 1986 and a doctoral degree in 1992. In 1992, he was sent to France for further study on a government scholarship, and after completing his postdoctoral research, he taught at a French university before returning to China to work at CASS in 1995. He has served as Deputy Director of the Institute of European Studies, Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies, and Director of the Institute of American Studies of CASS, and also as a Member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a Member of the Advisory Expert Committee of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
