The 2025 China Conference on Insurance and Risk Management (CCIRM 2025) was successfully held at Xinjiang University of Finance & Economics from July 9 to 12, 2025. The conference was hosted by the China Center for Insurance and Risk Management, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, and co-hosted by the School of Statistics and Data Science and the School of Finance at Xinjiang University of Finance & Economics.

The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Professor Runhuan Feng, Co-Chair of the Conference Committee, Chair Professor at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, and Director of the China Center for Insurance and Risk Management at Tsinghua SEM, and Associate Professor Guangyuan Gao from the Center for Applied Statistics and Research at Renmin University of China, who also serves as Vice Dean of the School of Statistics and Data Science at Xinjiang University of Finance & Economics. Professor Mingshan Zhou, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Xinjiang University of Finance & Economics, and Professor Michael R. Powers from the Finance Department of Tsinghua SEM delivered opening speeches on behalf of the organizers.

 

Upon the conference's invitation, the following distinguished professors delivered invited keynote speeches:

  • Professor Hanming Fang (University of Pennsylvania): "Life Insurance and Life Settlement Markets"
  • Professor Will Cong (Cornell University): "Innovation and Risks in the Age of AI and Digitization"
  • Professor Min-Teh Yu (Taiwan Tsinghua University, China): "Catastrophe Risk Securitization and Reinsurance: Implications for Risk Transfer, Internal Capital, and Diversification"
  • Professor Sojung Park (Seoul National University): "Mortality Protection Gap and its Implications"
  • Professor Agostino Capponi (Columbia University): "Data-Driven Dynamic Factor Modeling via Diffusion Maps"

 

The conference received 313 abstract submissions and 174 full paper submissions. The program featured 5 invited plenary reports, 245 parallel session presentations, 1 Editor Forum, 4 Invited Theme Forums, 5 Ph.D. Student Forums, 1 Industry Forum, 1 Roundtable Forum, and 48 parallel sessions (39 offline, 9 online). A total of 344 experts and scholars from 8 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Canada, Australia, India, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, and Taiwan region, attended the conference, with 255 participants present on-site. The parallel session presentations covered various sub-fields including Actuarial Science, Pensions and Social Security, Insurance Economics, Insurance Market Development and Regulation, Risk Management Theory and Practice, Property and Liability Insurance, Life and Health Insurance, Behavioral Insurance, Green Insurance and Economic Sustainability, and InsurTech and Related Issues. A total of 119 discussants, 12 invited discussants, and 17 student session chairs provided comments on the parallel session presentations. The conference finally selected 10 award-winning papers.

To facilitate exchange between the insurance academia and industry, each year's conference concludes with a thematic forum closely aligned with industry practice. The committee invites representatives from government, the insurance industry, and academia to speak on hot topics and cutting-edge issues in the development of insurance practices. This year's thematic forum was titled "Western Agriculture, Insurance, and Technology Innovation". Invited speakers included:

  • Zhihai Zhao, Director and Researcher of the Millet Research Institute, Zhangjiakou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hebei Province;
  • Professor Zhi Zhuo, former President and former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics;
  • Xinwei Jiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of China United Property Insurance Company Limited;
  • Changqing Lin, Senior Agricultural Insurance Expert from People's Insurance Company (Group) of China.

The China Conference on Insurance and Risk Management aims to promote exchange and cooperation between China and the international community in research fields such as insurance, risk management, and actuarial science, and to provide a platform for communication between academia and industry. Starting in 2010, it is held annually in different cities across China. To date, fourteen sessions have been successfully held in Xining, Beijing, Qingdao, Kunming, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Xi'an, Guilin, Baoding, Chengdu, Changsha, Guangzhou, and Ningbo.
